Dry Eyes have changed my life….

I don’t remember having dry eyes prior to my trip to Las Vegas. I experienced a burning sensation and irritation on our way to see the Cirque du Soliel show. I just put the discomfort down to the artificial fog they use…but thru most of the show my eyes were closed.

My eyes didn’t improve and I finally went to the Optometrist 3 months later, who said I had little pits all over my eyes like I had been sprayed in the face. I had to wear a bandage contact lens for a few months and the pits healed…but now I have this chronic dry eye.

This all happened 7 years ago, and just 2 years ago I remembered what happened. I used my friends hairspray, a brand that I was unfamiliar with and sprayed myself in the face. There was no immediate problem at the time, but I’ve come to learn that hairspray is the worst thing to get in your eye, as it sticks making it difficult to rinse away.

I am on restasis drops everyday and use OTC tears thruout. I was just switched to preservative free OTC tears as my OP thinks the preservative could be irritating me as well. I also have Lotrimin steroid drops for my flare ups. I take flaxseed and do warm compresses.

Everyday my eyes burn and are irritated. But every 3-5 weeks or so I experience a flare up…or at least that’s what I call them. My eyes get so irritated and burning that I cannot open them. I use warm compresses, my steroid drops and OTC alot! It lasts for 3-5 days and can be aggravated by an eyelash, dust, wind anything. So I am very paranoid about anything around my eyes…I live in fear of those flare ups.
